The Mysterious Clue is a pickup item found during an early Escape Academy escape room. It takes the form of a piece of paper depicting a cup (goblet) alongside a four-color sequence: blue, yellow, red, red. Reading the clue is a key step toward solving the room's goblet-and-key puzzle, which ultimately produces the Key of Truth [src-3c4a331aa3].

What the Mysterious Clue Is

The item's in-game description reads simply: "It's a cup with blue yellow red red." In practice, the clue is a diagram: a drawing of a goblet followed by four colored blocks in the order blue, yellow, red, red [src-3c4a331aa3]. It functions as an instruction sheet telling you which colored goblets to find and in what order to arrange them.

Where You Find It

The Mysterious Clue is picked up in the same room as a colored goblet, shortly after you open a lock by reading a clock-related hint. The clock in the room is broken, and the clue for that lock is to "pretend it's 12:30" — setting the lock to 12:30 opens it, and the Mysterious Clue (along with a goblet) is then available to pick up [src-2c17f7b0c2] [src-3c4a331aa3].

How to Use It

  1. Pick up the Mysterious Clue and read it. It shows a goblet plus the color order blue, yellow, red, red [src-3c4a331aa3].
  2. Pin the clue to your screen if you want to keep it visible while you search. The clue can be pinned in place, which is useful because you'll need to reference the color order repeatedly [src-3c4a331aa3].
  3. Collect the matching goblets. You need to find the goblets whose colors match the clue. In a co-op session, one player may hold the blue goblet and another the red goblet, so compare what each player has found [src-3c4a331aa3].
  4. Inspect each goblet for a letter. Examining a goblet reveals a letter printed on it. For example, the blue goblet corresponded to the letter "F," and the red goblet to "E" [src-3c4a331aa3].
  5. Assemble the letters in clue order. Since the clue's color order is blue, yellow, red, red, the blue goblet's letter comes first, followed by the yellow goblet's letter, then the two red goblets' letters. With blue = F and red = E, the partial answer reads F _ E E [src-3c4a331aa3].
  6. Enter the resulting word on the lock. The completed sequence spells a word that unlocks the Key of Truth [src-3c4a331aa3].

Tips

  • Pin the clue immediately. Because the color order (blue, yellow, red, red) is easy to misremember, pinning the Mysterious Clue keeps the diagram on screen while you hunt for goblets [src-3c4a331aa3].
  • Split the search in co-op. The goblets are scattered, and each player can inspect their own goblet's letter. Call out your color and letter so your partner can fill in the missing positions [src-3c4a331aa3].
  • Ignore the hint button if you want to solve it yourself. In one playthrough the player accidentally triggered a hint while examining the clue, which spoiled part of the puzzle — if you'd rather work it out, avoid that button [src-2c17f7b0c2].
  • Note the color-order quirk. One player initially misread the sequence as "blue yellow free free," but the correct reading is the color order blue, yellow, red, red — the letters on the goblets, not the word "free," are what you enter [src-2c17f7b0c2] [src-3c4a331aa3].

Rewards

Correctly using the Mysterious Clue to order the goblets and enter the code yields the Key of Truth, which is used to complete the room and escape [src-3c4a331aa3]. Solving this puzzle is a required step in the room's progression, so the clue is not optional — it is the map to the goblet code.
