The Library is a recurring location in the school setting of Escape Academy 2: Back 2 School. It appears as both a story hub — where you can chat with students such as Slip and Quanty — and as the setting for full escape-room levels, most notably the burning-library scenario "Where There's Smoke." Because the Library serves multiple roles across the campaign, this guide covers both the social visit and the puzzle content you'll encounter there.

Visiting the Library (Story Hub)

Early in the campaign, the Library appears alongside the headmaster's office and the quad as one of the places you can visit; one walkthrough chooses to save the Library for last [src-eca7cb7683]. Inside, you can hold optional side conversations — talking to the person in the library at the bottom right counts toward the achievement for eight optional side conversations [src-cc415a0c9f]. You may also run into Slip, who shows off a new edition of Escape Art History that includes a chapter about him [src-eca7cb7683].

In the Back 2 School story, the Library is reached through the humanities campus: leave the dormitory and main building, go down the stairs, and take the gate on the left [src-0dc02cf791]. Inside, talk to Quanty just to the left [src-0dc02cf791].

How to Complete "Banned Together" ([Back 2 School)

This Library level tasks you with recovering banned books for Quanty. The full sequence:

  1. Read the book on the left as you enter. A note tells you to read only the even pages, revealing Professor Grumble's instructions about the statues [src-0dc02cf791].
  2. Pose the four statues. Turn Grumble and Saunders to face etiquette, Pleasant to face fashion, and Maxwell to face dance. A book rises from the floor — your first banned book, How to Open Doors With a Crowbar [src-0dc02cf791].
  3. Solve the trolley combination. Four books on a trolley correspond to categories on the "Cluey Decimal System" poster opposite: religion, biography, philosophy, and languages — giving the code 2914. This yields the second banned book, A Primer on Brute-Forcing Puzzles [src-0dc02cf791].
  4. Go upstairs to the mezzanine. Step on the drawn faces on the floor and note which ones creak, then click those four faces on the central door to open it. The final banned book, Escape Rooms Are Overrated: A Manifesto, is inside [src-0dc02cf791].
  5. Return downstairs and give all three books to Quanty [src-0dc02cf791].

Afterward, head through the locked door at the far side of the library to reach the lecture hall for the "Quiz Pro Quo" segment [src-0dc02cf791].

How to Complete "[Where There's Smoke" (Burning Library)

This level traps you and Jeb in a burning library. The front door won't work — you need the secret exit and four items to unlock it [src-6bdc604a49].

  1. Reveal the secret exit. A book reads "there's no time to read — if you wish to escape, just flip through." At the "Wisdom Through Effort" panel, flip the letters in THROUGH upside down [src-6bdc604a49].
  2. Grab the tenth newspaper at the back right, next to the Wisdom Through Effort panel, if you're collecting all ten [src-59f8d3957c].
  3. Open the cupboard. The directional lock solution is right, right, up, left, down, up, left, left, awarding an hourglass and a crank handle [src-6bdc604a49][src-59f8d3957c]. The missing parchment piece for this sequence sits next to the lock box [src-6bdc604a49].
  4. Open the chest. The number lock answer is 2257, containing your first strange tile — you need four total [src-59f8d3957c].
  5. Solve the hourglass puzzle to earn the second strange tile, then cycle the red wheel to the sun, the blue to wind, and the third to fire for tiles in that room [src-59f8d3957c].
  6. Set the clock cranks. Use the middle crank first to bring the Roman numeral six to the bottom, then the right crank, then the left, revealing the entry button [src-6bdc604a49][src-59f8d3957c].
  7. Open the upside-down chest. Read normally the code is 6989; upside down it appears as 6869 — input it either way [src-cc415a0c9f][src-59f8d3957c].

Tips

  • The directional lock and 2257 chest codes are confirmed identically across multiple walkthroughs, so you can input them with confidence [src-6bdc604a49][src-59f8d3957c][src-cc415a0c9f].
  • Once you've collected two strange tiles, doors behind you seal off — finish everything in a room before moving on [src-59f8d3957c].
  • For the hourglass, make sure the final piece is placed with the sand in the top so it drains down and triggers the opening [src-59f8d3957c].

The Library sits within the wider Escape Academy school setting, connecting to areas like the quad and headmaster's office during hub exploration [src-eca7cb7683].
